Welcome to the Glengarry Primary School web site where you will find a range of information about various aspects of the school. The information will provide you with an overview of the school's programs and an insight into this very successful forward-looking primary school. In a world where change appears to be the only constant, at Glengarry Primary School we are educating children to meet the demands of the future by addressing their needs in terms of self-esteem, life skills and technology, as well as academic needs.
As a result of the high degree of collaboration amongst staff, we are able to establish programs that meet the academic, social and physical needs of the student. We are constantly monitoring programs to ensure that we're engaging in best practice which enables us to make the necessary changes to give our students every possible advantage in the development of their learning skills. There will always be a strong focus on our students' literacy and numeracy skills but this will be combined with a growing emphasis on other essential skills that will provide students with the ability to become life-long learners. Therefore, we are very mindful at Glengarry Primary School of the need to develop and improve our students':

thinking skills
problem-solving skills
inquiry skills
technology skills
ability to work collaboratively.
In short, children will not only be taught specific knowledge and skills but will also learn how to learn.

At Glengarry there has been a growing emphasis on developing children's social skills as well as their emotional intelligence. Strategies are in place to address these two areas. Strategies have also been developed to address issues relating to boys specifically. Ultimately, the pedagogy at Glengarry Primary School is to engage students in learning and keep them engaged throughout their primary schooling.

Glengarry Primary School has a comprehensive behaviour management program in place that is based on the principle that "every teacher has the right to teach and every student has the right to learn". Our Behaviour Management program creates a supportive, non-threatening environment in which inappropriate and disruptive behaviour is kept to an absolute minimum. A dress code, strongly supported by parents, assists in the promotion of school spirit and school identity. Parent involvement in the school and participation in decision-making is welcomed with parents having a major role to play in many of the school's programs.

Glengarry is staffed by a group of experienced, dedicated teachers who are constantly adding to their repertoire of teaching strategies and knowledge of current best practice to cater for the students' different learning styles. A group of highly committed non-teaching staff work together with the teachers to deliver an effective education program.

I commend Glengarry Primary School to you as a school that cares about the development of the whole child and continuously strives for excellence.
