( Help Our Precious Environment )

The HOPE Group was formed at Glengarry Primary School in 1990 by a group of teachers, parents and students who had concerns about the environment. Activities undertaken by the HOPE Group include:
recycling
litter management
energy management
revegetation

A group of volunteer parents manage the recycling program which operates on Monday and Wednesday mornings. They are assisted by several students.

Litter Management
Every class in the school has the responsibility of keeping a particular area of the school grounds tidy. The tidied areas are frequently acknowledged at assemblies. The HOPE Group has a whole school clean-up once per term.

Energy Management
Classes are encouraged to conserve energy by turning off lights, fans, air conditioners and heaters when not needed or when no one is in the classroom. Some members of the student HOPE Group are selected as energy monitors whose duty is to check classrooms for appliances that are left on unnecessarily.

Revegetation
The school has a plant nursery where, at times, HOPE members store seedlings for planting in the school grounds or grow seedlings for future plantings. Members of the HOPE Group are particularly active on special days such as Arbor Day and World Environment Day.
