The Curriculum Improvement program stems from the introduction of the Curriculum Framework in Western Australia a few years ago. There is now a focus on 'outcomes based education' with the belief that there are certain things that students are expected to learn and become as a result of attending Western Australian schools. The focus on outcomes based education has resulted in a change in pedagogy (how students are taught) with a greater emphasis on activity-based learning, inquiry learning, problem-solving, thinking skills and collaborative learning. It has also resulted in teachers using a variety of assessment strategies other than just 'pen and paper' testing. The Curriculum Improvement Program has also led to a strong emphasis on a core of shared values such as respect of self, respect and concern for others, social and civic responsibility, environmental responsibility and a commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and achievement of potential. ** Far more detailed information, refer to our parent information brochure: Outcomes Based Education |
